Where Rowpip fits
Rowpip is the app we make, so weigh this part with that in mind. It's a row and round counter and nothing else: one project, one big number, and the whole screen as the button. It runs on iPhone, Apple Watch, Android phones and Wear OS watches, and a phone and its watch show the same count. It's free, both watch apps are included, and it has no ads and no account. It collects no data.
What it doesn't do: it keeps one project at a time, and it has no pattern library and no notes. If you want your patterns and your notes in the same app as your counter, several of the apps below do that and Rowpip doesn't.
Or go straight to your device:
Auto-count Experimental
On the watch, Rowpip can try to keep count for you: you knit one row while the watch learns your rhythm, and after that it counts your stitches and moves on to the next row. We haven't found another app that counts rows from wrist motion (as of October 2026). It's experimental: it may work well for some ways of knitting and badly for others, and counting by hand always works.

How we compared
- We read each app's public App Store page, Apple's lookup data for it, its Google Play page where the app has one, and its developer's website, on 9 October 2026.
- Prices are from the US App Store. Google Play doesn't show what in-app purchases cost, so we give no prices for Android.
- We state only what those pages say, and each app's paragraph links to them. Where they say nothing, so do we: that's an empty cell in the table.
- We make Rowpip, so we have a stake in this comparison. That's why it keeps to facts you can check and ranks nothing.
- Apps change their names and their prices. If something here is wrong or out of date, write to hello@rowpip.com.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best knitting row counter app?
It depends on what you want the app to hold. Some are plain counters, and the biggest are broad pattern and stash apps with a counter inside.
So decide that first. Then check three things: whether the app runs on your phone and your watch, what its watch app costs, and what its privacy label says. The table on this page has all three for the 12 apps we compared in October 2026.
Which row counter apps have an Apple Watch app?
Of the 12 apps we compared in October 2026, 6 have an Apple Watch app: Crochet row & stitch counter, Knitting Counter: Row Tracker, Knitting – Crochet Row Counter, Loopsy, My Row Counter and YarnBuddy.
In Knitting Counter: Row Tracker and My Row Counter it's a Premium feature, and Knitting – Crochet Row Counter is a paid app made only for the watch.
Rowpip runs on Apple Watch as well as iPhone.
Is there a row counter app for Wear OS?
Not many. As of October 2026 we found 2 counters that support Wear OS: My Row Counter, where the watch app is a Premium feature and still in beta, and Stitch Counter, which runs standalone or with the phone.
Rowpip runs on Wear OS watches as well as Android phones.
Which row counter apps are free?
Of the 12 apps we compared in October 2026, 10 are free to start with, and 8 sell subscriptions.
Three sell no subscription: KnitCounter takes tips only, Easy Knitty has a $3.99 unlock, and the watch-only Knitting – Crochet Row Counter costs $4.99 upfront.
Rowpip is free, and it has no ads.
Can a row counter app count the rows for me?
We haven't found another app that counts rows from wrist motion (as of October 2026). Every counter we looked at needs a tap, the crown, your voice, the volume keys or a double tap.
Rowpip's auto-count tries, and it's experimental: you knit one row while the watch learns your rhythm, and after that it counts your stitches and moves on to the next row. It may work well for some ways of knitting and badly for others, and counting by hand always works.
When can I get Rowpip?
Soon. Rowpip is coming to the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch, and to Google Play for Android phones and Wear OS watches.
