How counting works on Android
Your phone can lie on the armrest, in your lap or beside your project bag. There's a way to count for each.
Tap the card
Most of the screen is a card with your row number on it, and all of it is the button. You don't have to aim: a tap wherever your finger lands adds a row or a round.
Press a volume key
Turn on the volume keys in the menu; they're off until you do. Then, while the counter is on screen, volume up adds a row and volume down takes one off, so your thumb can find the key without your eyes leaving your stitches.
Jump to any row
Picking a project back up, or kept a paper tally for a while? Set the count from the menu: type the row you're on and carry on from there.
Add a Wear OS watch
With Rowpip on a Wear OS watch too, you can count from your wrist with a tap or a turn of the bezel. Phone and watch each keep working when the other is out of reach, and they catch up when they reconnect.
What makes Rowpip handy on Android
Hands-free without a watch
You don't need a smartwatch to count without looking. With the volume keys on, a press at the end of each row is the whole job.
The screen stays awake
Rowpip keeps the display on while the counter is showing, so the number doesn't go dark halfway through a row. It's a setting, and it starts switched on.
Nothing to sign up for
There's no account and no tracking. Rowpip works offline, and the only connection it ever uses is the one between your phone and your watch.
Android questions
Which Android phones does Rowpip work on?
Phones running Android 8.0 or later. The volume keys, the screen-awake setting and TalkBack support are the same on all of them.
Do the volume keys still change the volume?
Not while the counter is on screen with the setting on: Rowpip takes those key presses for counting, so the volume stays where it is. Leave the counter, or turn the setting off, and the keys change the volume as usual.
Does Rowpip work with TalkBack?
Yes. TalkBack reads the counter aloud, as in “Row 12”. Rowpip also follows your system text size and your light or dark theme.
What happens to my count if Android closes the app?
Nothing. Each change is written to your phone as you make it, so the count, the project's name, your pattern repeat and your finish target are all still there after the app is closed or the phone restarts.
When can I get Rowpip for Android?
Soon. Rowpip is coming to Google Play for Android phones and Wear OS watches.
