Privacy policy
Rowpip is a row counter for knitters, and it's private by design: no account, no tracking, and nothing about you sent to us. Here is what that means for the apps on your phone and watch, and for this website.
No account, no data collected
Rowpip has no account and nothing to sign up for. The apps collect no personal data and send nothing to us: no analytics, no ads, no tracking. We never see your count.
If you've allowed your phone or watch to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google may pass crash reports and usage statistics on to us, as they do for every app. Rowpip itself sends nothing.
Your count stays on your devices
Your project (its name, rows or rounds, the count, and any pattern repeat or finish target) and your settings are stored on your phone and on your watch. Deleting Rowpip deletes them.
If you back up your phone with iCloud or Google, the backup includes Rowpip's data, as it does your other apps'. That backup is between you and Apple or Google, and we can't read it.
Phone and watch sync
To show the same count on your phone and your watch, Rowpip sends your project between them through Apple's watch connection (iPhone and Apple Watch) or Google's (Android and Wear OS). It carries your project and its count, the time of the last change, and a random id for each device so that the newest change wins. Rowpip sends it only to your own phone or watch, and never to us.
Apart from this, the apps don't use the network.
Motion data for auto-count Experimental
Auto-count reads your watch's motion sensors while you knit, to count stitches. The motion data is processed on the watch and isn't saved or sent anywhere.
It's kept only when you record a sample and choose to share it: the recording goes from your watch to your phone, and leaves your phone only if you share it, for example to help us improve auto-count.
On Apple Watch, auto-count keeps the sensors on with the screen off, the way a workout app does. If your watch asks for access to Health for this, Rowpip still doesn't read your Health data or save anything to it.
This website
rowpip.com sets no cookies and has no analytics, ads or trackers. It loads nothing from other websites: its fonts and images come from rowpip.com itself.
Netlify hosts the website. Like any web host, it keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, the pages asked for and browser details, to run and protect the service.
Changes to this policy
When what the apps do changes, this page changes with them, and so does the date below.
