What's different about Rowpip

Rowpip is the app we make, so read this part with that in mind.

Auto-count Experimental

On the watch, Rowpip can try to keep count for you: you knit one row while the watch learns your rhythm, and after that it counts your stitches and moves on to the next row. We haven't found another app that counts rows from wrist motion (as of October 2026). It's experimental: it may work well for some ways of knitting and badly for others, and counting by hand always works.

What YarnBuddy does that Rowpip doesn't

YarnBuddy has unlimited customizable counters, with linked and repeating counters and highlighter bars. On Apple Watch you can add, delete, reorder and configure counters, and a complication shows the current row. It also runs on iPad and Mac.

Rowpip is smaller than that on purpose. It holds one project, with no pattern library and no notes, and it is made for phones and watches: there's no iPad or Mac app.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rowpip a good alternative to YarnBuddy?

For one project at a time, yes: Rowpip is a single big counter that you tap, on your phone and on your watch.

For a shelf of projects with their patterns, no. As of October 2026 YarnBuddy keeps its counters next to the pattern and has a yarn and tool stash, and Rowpip has no pattern library.

How many projects can I keep in YarnBuddy for free?

Up to 10, as of October 2026. YarnBuddy Pro is $14.99 a year, $1.99 a month or $44.99 once (US prices).

Rowpip keeps one project at a time, and it is free.

Does YarnBuddy have an Apple Watch app?

Yes, as of October 2026. On Apple Watch you can add, delete, reorder and configure its counters.

Rowpip's watch apps show the phone's counter: the number, the pattern-repeat line and the target.

When can I get Rowpip?

Soon. Rowpip is coming to the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch, and to Google Play for Android phones and Wear OS watches.
